David Alban Named Chief Operating Officer & Corporate Secretary

David Alban has been named Chief Operating Officer & Corporate Secretary for Ring Power Corporation. The move was effective December 3.

In this role, Alban will oversee all of Ring Power’s equipment divisions’ sales and product support operations, as well as Phoenix Products, Human Resources, Training, Purchasing, Facilities and Security.

Prior to this appointment, Alban was Executive Vice President & Corporate Secretary, with responsibility for Heavy Equipment Product Support, Power Systems Division Product Support, Phoenix Products, Human Resources and Training, Purchasing, Facilities and Security. 

Alban’s career with Ring Power dates back to 2001 in the Sales Training program, where he spent time working in the service shops, learning firsthand what happens day-to-day. He also worked in the Heavy Equipment Rental department and was promoted to manager of the newly launched Agricultural Equipment division in 2003.

In 2004, when Ring Power’s Six Sigma initiative began, Alban was selected to be a Black Belt project leader. In 2008, he was named Vice President of Lift Trucks. The next year, Alban was promoted to Vice President & Corporate Secretary, with responsibility for Power Systems Product Support. In 2010, he added Heavy Equipment Product Support, Training & Safety to his responsibilities.

In 2013, Alban was named Executive Vice President & Corporate Secretary, overseeing Power Systems and Heavy Equipment Product Support, Training & Safety.  The following year he added Purchasing, Facilities, Security and Phoenix Products to his responsibilities.

In his new role, Alban will continue to report directly to Chairman and President, Randy Ringhaver.

Brooksville Delivers 777G Off-Highway Truck to Customer

Last month, a police escort was called in to help Ring Power’s machine demo operators Mike Oster and Curt Loucks transport a brand new, Cat 777G Off-Highway truck to a customer’s Brooksville facility.

The massive, Tier 4 Final-compliant truck — the newest model in the 100-ton size class — was assembled in the shop in six weeks by Brooksville technicians Tony Norris (HE FS Master Tech) and Greg Tester (HE FS Tech I).

The 777 was first introduced by Caterpillar in 1977 and has proven to be a workhorse for mining and large earthmoving customers.

The G Series represents a new era for this size class from Caterpillar. With customer input, Caterpillar designed and manufactured a truck that is reliable, economical and offers comfort, confidence and control for operators.

The 777G achieves greater production with seven percent more torque powering work and new transmission controls that produce quick haul cycles with automotive quality shifting. The production increases are balanced with new fuel saving strategies that include configurable economy settings as well as an adaptive economy mode that automatically optimizes fuel consumption based on the user’s production baseline.

Ring Power Crane Delivers Manitowoc 999

Product engineers from the Grove manufacturing facility in Shady Grove, Pa. traveled to Fletcher, N.C. recently to witness the assembly and commissioning of a Manitowoc 999 and take notes on possible product improvements. Ring Power Crane delivered the machine — one of the first Series 3 999s off the assembly line — to Tindall Corp. in early May for a job at the Sierra Nevada Brewery. Grove reps Greg Rock (Field Performance), Wayne Forsythe (Manufacturing), Clay Nunemaker (Final Assembly), Ken Strong (Manufacturing), Travis Schultz (Manitowoc CraneCARE), Dave Edinger (Product Verification Center), Edwin Blair (Test Track), Justin Gipe (Paint – Final Detail) and Frankie Rogers (Tindall Crane Operator) were joined on-site by Jeff Murray, Ring Power CraneCarolinas regional sales manager, and Paul Spry, N.C. crane field service tech I. Paul oversaw the assembly, performed the pre-delivery inspection and calibrated the new crane.

Custom Cat® C15 Air Compressor Package to be on display at OTC Houston

Caterpillar Oil & Gas will display a custom Cat C15 Air Compressor package in an enclosure configuration at the 2015 OTC Houston Show, held May 4th – 7th in Houston, Texas.  Each C15 package is rated at 536 bhp (400 bkW) @ 1800 rpm and the finished package will provide 1600 cfm at 150 psi, while meeting the stringent DNV 2.7-2 certification requirements. Cat dealer Ring Power led the effort to design and develop the custom compressor packages in conjunction with Caterpillar Oil & Gas, Pyroban, a Caterpillar company, and Sullair Corporation. Ring Power will soon be offering additional Cat-powered models: 250 cfm, 400 cfm and 1000 cfm. The custom packages are offered in both skid and enclosed configurations. Ring Power is the first Cat dealer building air compressor packages to DNV 2.7-2 requirements

“Ring Power and our partners have worked hard to develop a solid relationship of teamwork and collaboration through all stages of this project,” said Roger Adkins, Ring Power Air Compressor vice president. “Moving forward, Ring Power will continue to train and provide CompEx-certified technicians to support Caterpillar Oil & Gas and our customers in the field.”

ZONE II Certified Air Compressor

The C15 custom air compressor units were designed to be compliant with global standards for worldwide usage in a rental fleet. The units feature an air inlet shutoff as a method of stopping the engine in the presence of a flammable atmosphere and an intake flame arrestor to prevent flames within the intake manifold from spreading to the outside atmosphere. The packages are equipped with water-cooled flexible exhaust pipes with a rugged vibration-resistant design, developed specifically for offshore applications. The exhaust gas heat exchanger in the custom units reduces the temperature of exhaust gas to meet area requirements and has been explosion tested and certified for use in Zone 2 areas.

Cat hazardous location solutions are fully customizable and designed to integrate with complex equipment with offerings ranging from components to complete power solutions and generator sets for a broad spectrum of applications. The hazardous location engine is rated at 536 bhp between 1,800- 2,000 rpm, with an ambient capability of 50° C for the mechanical systems and 60° C on the electrical system.

A variety of hazardous-location certified attachments are available, including an alternator, ATEX Messenger and ATEX throttle control and inlet air flame trap. This engine also features Non-Sparking (nA) and Intrinsically Safe (ic) ECM wiring harnesses and sensors, as well as harness cable jackets that meet flame propagation requirements of IEC 60332-1-2. Having a completely designed, tested and certified package from Caterpillar allows the customer to reduce project complexity and decrease certification-related risks.

Tampa’s Gasparilla Music Festival Kicks Off This Weekend with Help from Ring Power; Cat Entertainment Services

 The 2015 festival will take place on four different stages in downtown Tampa —Channelside Bay Plaza Stage at Kiley Garden, Sanford Brown Stage in the Amphitheatre, Sheas Barclay Stage at Tibbett’s Corner and Soulshine Stage at Curtis Hixon Park — and will feature musical acts from a wide variety of genres and cuisine from the region’s top restaurants. The festival celebrates the arts in Tampa Bay by showcasing diverse local acts alongside nationally recognized headliners. This year’s headliners include; Modest Mouse, Mutemath, Dynasty and many more.

Ring Power celebrates 15 Years of Paver Training

In 2000, Ring Power was a pilot dealer for a new training concept by Caterpillar: Paver Operations Training. The "train-the-trainer" program is based on a Cat patented process, "Paving by the Numbers," which strips down the complex paving process into just 14 steps.

This training is unique in several ways. First, the day begins with classroom presentations where the day's goals are outlined and on screen presentations are used to lay out concepts. The second half of the day is completely hands-on. The entire class goes out to a paved training area where sand is run through the machines in place of asphalt so that the classroom concepts can be reinforced and realized by actual paving. Additionally, the class maintains a low 2:1 trainer to student ratio, which is critical to the program's success. It is also unique in that the concepts that are taught can be utilized with any manufacturer's paver. This enables users of mixed fleets to realize the value of the program while soft-selling Cat as the leader in the industry.

On day one of training each student is given a benchmark assessment. At the end of the weeklong training, students take the same exam as a hands-on practical exam. Those who successfully complete the program are presented with a certificate and all of the training materials to take back to their respective companies and implement the program.

Throughout February, Paving Products Support Specialist Mark Halvorsen, Paving Products Division Manager Phil Ireland, Certified Demo Operators Curt Loucks and Mike Oster, New Sales Coordinator Darryl Kloter, and HE Executive Secretaries Tammy Manganelli and Elvira Elliott assisted the Cat Paver Operations Trainers in Tampa with the weeklong training sessions. The first three weeks catered to other Cat dealers' customers from around the U.S. The final week of the class was exclusively for Ring Power customers.

More than 200 people have completed the training since 2000.
