Florida's Largest Peanut Farmer Prefers Challenger Agricultural Equipment

May 17, 2010 at 9:18 AMRing Power

Gene Waldron Explains Why He Chooses Challenger over John Deere Tractors Gene Waldron Shows Famous Green Peanuts

"God first, family second and farming third." These are words Mr. Gene Waldron (of Waldron Farms’ green peanut fame) lives by. He says, "It really is just that simple."

Waldron’s journey as a peanut farmer began fifty years ago. He quit school and went to work farming at the age of fifteen. He began with one hundred acres of peanut fields in 1959. He would sell these peanuts to the Jacksonville Farmers Market by way of a neighbor’s truck and a borrowed tank of gas. Waldron recalls, "My neighbor had a truck he said he’d sell me for sixty-five dollars. I said, ‘Okay, I’ll buy the truck, but can I borrow five dollars for gas?’" At fifteen, he then drove without a driver’s license from Citra, Florida up to Jacksonville to the Farmers Market. He did this for two weeks and the following Monday returned to his neighbor to repay him for the truck and the gas money. And that’s where it all began.

Fast-forward fifty years and Gene Waldron now farms 7,000 acres of peanuts across the state of Florida. He owns 3,200 acres near Citra and leases the remaining land farther south where he has a longer warm season for growing. Waldron Farms are particularly well known for their "green" peanut. The green peanut has reached its full maturation size, but is not allowed to completely dry out. This creates a taste that most peanut connoisseurs prefer. Green peanuts are also harder to come by; because they are not completely dried out and cured like dry-roasted peanut varieties they have a shorter shelf life. Most green peanuts are eventually boiled to become the southern road-side snack favorite "boiled peanuts". During Waldron’s busy months, they produce 5,000 bushels of green peanuts a day. Waldron sells these peanuts from as far south as Homestead, Florida, to as far north as Boston and Canada and all the way out to Texas.

The interesting thing about Gene Waldron is that he used to be a John Deere dealer. He owned Marion Tractor and then Green South with locations in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. So how did this John Deere aficionado become a Ring Power customer? Challenger tractors. Waldron has a fleet of thirty-six agricultural tractors. Of these, his favorite are the four Challengers he bought from Ring Power. The Challengers are his favorite for a very simple reason: they save him money. And a lot of it. Waldron said that he can run a Challenger MT575B with the same horsepower as his 7820 Deere machine for twice the amount of time on the same amount of fuel. Pulling the harrows, his Deere machines have to be refueled every day. Challenger tractors only need to be refueled every two days. The Challenger tractor saves him at least fifty gallons of fuel every day. That comes out to over $23,000 worth of savings per year for just one tractor alone. Waldron says, "The savings in fuel alone makes it worth it, but it’s the service that really makes the difference."

Waldron explains that every hour a tractor isn’t Waldron Farm's Green Peanutsworking, is an hour he’s not making money. He said Ring Power’s one hour field service turn around time makes all the difference in the world. Waldron explained, "Deere never once made it out here in under an hour, even when I owned the company!" Waldron can’t afford any down time, especially during harvesting season, and that is why he relies on Ring Power’s service department to be there at a moment’s notice to get him back up and running.

Of the thirty-two Deere tractors remaining in Waldron’s fleet, he plans to keep zero. Every single one will be traded in for the Challenger equivalent as soon as the warranties run out. Waldron could not be more pleased with his Challenger machines and is happy to tell anyone about it! More Challengers mean more peanuts!

Marco Rubio Visits Ring Power Corporation at World Commerce Center in St. Augustine

April 15, 2010 at 2:32 PMRing Power

On April 14, Marco Rubio made Ring Power’s headquarters in St. Augustine a stop on his "Take a Stand" Bus Tour across Florida. The U.S. Senate candidate took a tour of the World Commerce Center facility and then spoke to a crowd of Ring Power employees and local Republican supporters. Marco Rubio tours Ring Power facility in St. Augustine with Randy Ringhaver, Chris Tomkinson and Tim Maguire

Addressing the crowd, Marco said, "It’s businesses like this that are going to make our economy stronger, employ Floridians desperately looking for work and lower our state’s record unemployment rate. Unfortunately, the policies coming out of Washington today are only going to hinder the success of this business and the thousands like it across Florida. We already know that policies like the massive health care bill are going to hurt this company."

Marco Rubio knows that last month during the health care debate, Caterpillar was one of the many companies to warn that the massive bill would lead to higher costs. Specifically, Caterpillar said that the bill would increase its health care costs by $100 million in the first year alone and put at risk the health care coverage of its 150,000 employees and retirees. What affects the goose, affects the gander. As a Caterpillar dealership, Ring Power will also be affected by the new health care legislation. Rubio sympathized, "You can read about job losses and laying people off but when you come to companies that face that, you get the full impact." Randy Ringhaver confirmed, "These additional costs are going to make it harder to remain competitive." Mr. Ringhaver said he supports Rubio "to improve the direction this country is going."

Rubio’s ultimate goal is to control the government’s expansion and spending. He believes big government is failing business people, "Our leaders need to be focused on helping businesses grow and succeed. We need pro-growth economic policies and someone in Washington who will provide clear, conservative alternatives because mandates, higher taxes and more debt are not the answer."

The suggestions Rubio outlined for getting the country back on track include: Marco Rubio speaks at Ring Power Corporation

* Freezing government spending to 2007 -- what he called "pre-Obama" -- levels. "Freezing spending indicates to people that America is serious about its debt problems," he said.

* Banning earmarks, where legislators insert pet projects into bills and see them passed without scrutiny.

* Freezing civilian hiring. "Federal employees make 70 percent more than those in the private sector," he said.

* Cutting the White House budget by 10 percent.

* Passing the line item veto, which would give the president power to veto wasteful items in a budget without having to redo the document.

* Ending the bailout program. "They want to make it permanent," he said, amazed at the idea. "We'd be institutionalizing an incentive to fail."

* Reforming entitlement programs, such as Social Security and Medicare. This would be toughest of all, he said.

"These programs must be reformed if we're going to save them," Rubio said.

* Using leftover stimulus money to pay down the national debt.

Marco firmly believes by enforcing these suggestions he can help save "the freest and most prosperous country in the world." Marco explained, "If we don't fix these problems, our children and grandchildren will be the first generation of Americans to leave behind a diminished country. We must grow our economy through the private sector, not through the government."

Ring Power Supplies CAT Equipment to FELD Motorsports

March 30, 2010 at 12:50 PMRing Power

Ring Power Helps Make Monster Jam a Smash!

Monster TruckIn three different cities, on four different nights, Ring Power supplied all the CATâ equipment necessary to build and stage a monster truck show. The Monster Jam’s Florida leg started in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium on January 23. Monster Jam had an encore performance in Tampa on February 6th after having an interim show at Orlando’s Citrus Bowl on January 30. The Florida tour de force ended with a completely sold out show in Jacksonville on February 27.

So exactly how did Ring Power come to sponsor these events? It all started with a phone call from Feldâ Motorsports’ director of operations for track construction, Dan Allen, to the Sales Coordinator for The CAT Rental Storeâ in Tampa J.D. Fagan. Dan explained to J.D. that his company had been using Neff Rentals of Florida for the last ten years. The last year Dan Allen did business with Neff he was extremely disappointed with the quality of equipment he received. Poor quality equipment creates a time crunch for Feld. The more equipment breaks down, the less time they have to create the monster truck course. He knew he was guaranteed the very best quality equipment if he rented from the local CAT dealer. So he called us.

The CAT Rental Store in Tampa supplied the following equipment:

325 Hydraulic Excavator   CAT Multi Terrain Loader smoothes dirt mound

330 Hydraulic Excavator

950 Wheel Loader

928 Wheel Loader

D5GLGP Dozer

D3KLGP Dozer

(2) 297 Multi Terrain Loaders

2400 Gallon Water Truck

(2) 6000 lb Telehandlers (Cat TL642 & Lull 644E)

(2) JCB 940 Straight Mast Forklifts

Laymor 8HC 3-wheeled broom

(2) Light Towers

30kW Generator

The CAT Rental Store in Jacksonville supplied this equipment:

(2) 330 Hydraulic Excavators  CAT Telehandler moves car during Monster Jam

950 Wheel Loader

930 Wheel Loader

D5GLGP Dozer

D3KLGP Dozer

297 Multi Terrain Loader

287 Multi Terrain Loader

2400 Gallon Water Truck

(2) 6000 lb Telehandlers (Cat TL642 & Lull 644E)

(1) 10,000 lb Telehandler (Cat TL1055)

Laymor 8HC 3-wheeled Broom

All these pieces of equipment were used to transport dirt from an off site dirt pit. CAT excavators and loaders dumped dirt into over the road dump trucks that then drove the 35,000 yards of dirt required to build the monster truck course to the stadium. Once inside the stadium, bulldozers and multi terrain loaders shaped and moved the thousands of yards of dirt to create the course. The Feld employees enjoy the track building process almost as much as the Monster Jam show itself. Steve Carmack, the Event Supervisor, explained, "I can’t believe this is my job! This is what we do: (waves arm across entire stadium floor of dirt and equipment) Kids playing with heavy equipment in the dirt. Who didn’t play with a Tonka truck in a sandbox as a kid? At Feld, we’ve just never grown up. Bigger sandbox, bigger toys. As operators, we definitely prefer CAT machines. They’re quicker, smoother, easier to run, hugely efficient. If we ever have the opportunity to use CAT, we do!"

The use of CAT equipment doesn’t end with the completion of the track, it continues throughout the show. Any time a monster truck flips or a car needs to be moved, CAT telehandlers are right on hand to effortlessly correct the upturned vehicle. In Jacksonville, Feld used a 930 loader without a bucket to tow broken down trucks off the track.

In exchange for the equipment, Feld gave Ring Power tickets to each show. In addition to so many of our employees and customers attending in the show for free, Feld used the Ring Power logo on the jumbotrons and LED banners. Feld also displayed some of the smaller pieces of equipment at the Pit Parties that took place before the rally. Feld read public announcements about Ring Power over the loud speakers and displayed our banners around the ground level of the stadium. In Jacksonville, they even custom painted the CAT logo on the main dirt mound!

The Monster Jam truck shows turned out to be a huge success at every one of their Florida stops. Feld was extremely pleased with the quality of the equipment across the state and the eagerness to help displayed by all Ring Power employees, especially Will Courtney and J.D. Fagan. Feld will again use Ring Power for their Motocross tour in March and any future Monster Jam shows. Kudos to CAT Rental guys Will and J.D.!

Contruction Equipment Rebuild Extends Life of Machine

March 24, 2010 at 10:31 AMRing Power

Ring Power Rebuilds 836G Compactor for Tomoka Landfill  836G After Machine Rebuild

A strong product and a strong Catâ dealer partner can mean a stronger bottom line for landfill operations, like the Tomoka Landfill in Volusia County. Cat equipment’s sustainable design allows it to be rebuilt by local Florida dealer Ring Power. In these lean times, that’s good news- for construction equipment owners and for Ring Power. Recently, Volusia County Recycling & Solid Waste Division saved money and improved their return on investment with a Ring Power machine rebuild of their 836G Landfill Compactor.

Machines on the front line in tough environments, like compactors, take a beating. Cat components are not only stronger from the start, but are engineered to be remanufactured to deliver multiple life cycles. So when Volusia County’s 836G was ready for a rebuild, it was stripped down to its sturdy frame, which is in good condition, and all components were inspected, refurbished and replaced. Following stringent Caterpillar reusability standards, the 836G was rebuilt to a "like new" machine.

Ring Power’s Heavy Equipment technicians performed the third life rebuild on the 836G Landfill Compactor in St. Augustine, Florida. Right on schedule, 30 days after it came in for its third life, the 836G was put back into production at Volusia County’s Tomoka Landfill, backed once again by a Total Maintenance & Repair contract and an extended power train warranty.

The 836G Landfill Compactor was the very first G-series production compactor to come off the Cat assembly line and 17,500 hours later, it is now on its third life. The renowned durability of Cat equipment is illustrated in the 836G frame. Standing up to the rigors of daily operation on the face of the landfill and delivering not only three lives, but potentially a fourth, reinforces the value of owning a Cat machine. 836G Before Rebuild

Volusia County Landfill Operations Manager Robert Gillmore was thrilled with the cost savings and results. "I have been told after this third rebuild that the 836G frame is still in good condition and that in four years we should evaluate the frame for a potential fourth rebuild, " he said.

Couple the unmatched durability of the 836G machine with Ring Power’s Total Maintenance & Repair plan and Volusia County reaps a lot of money saving benefits. By customizing TM&R plans for the Tomoka Landfill equipment, Ring Power’s responsive Product Support team is able to maintain optimum equipment condition, reduce risk to the customer and minimize Volusia County’s owning and operating costs. Those factors equate to minimal downtime and low maintenance costs. But Volusia County’s most significant savings came with the equipment rebuilds, each of which saved the county 40 to 60 percent over the cost of purchasing a new machine. In four years the 836G’s frame will be evaluated for yet another rebuild. Chances are good that more work is in store for the Cat frame, and more savings are in store for Volusia County.

For more information about Ring Power's heavy equipment rebuilds, please visit ringpower.com. You can also call our Daytona Beach branch Heavy Equipment location (401 N. Tomoka Farms Road Daytona Beach, Florida 32124) at 386.947.4990.

Not All Boom Mowers Are Created Equal

March 22, 2010 at 3:22 PMRing Power
A Challenger tractor matched with a Diamond Boom Mower is perfect combination for roadside mowing.

Diamond Boom Mowers and Challenger Ag and Farm Tractors: a winning combination for roadside vegetation managementDiamond Boom Mower & Challenger Ag Tractor

When it comes to roadside mowing, the boom mower of choice for Ring Power is quality Diamond Boom Mowers. In a side-by-side comparison, competitive boom mowers, like Alamo Industrial, do not even come close to the features and quality of Diamond Boom Mowers. Review the comparison of Diamond’s key features and see for yourself. The photographs are an Alamo Industrial mower mounted onto a John Deere tractor.

Ease of Maintenance
The simple drive system used by Diamond’s boom mowers utilizes high performance pumps, motors and controls.
Alamo uses a large front-mounted pump and control system that operate the boom and turret assembly.

Field Usage
Diamond Mower, when coupled with the Challenger 500 Series tractor, has 12 inches of clearance—that’s nearly three-times the clearance of the competition. Most other boom mowers have only 4 inches of ground clearance.

Turret Assembly and Boom Mounting Pins
Diamond’s simplistic design incorporates one very large and strong pin and one cylinder with over 75 sq. in. load bearing surface on the swing pin. This gives the boom mower many years of trouble-free service and low maintenance cost.
The underside of the competitor’s turret assembly uses a pin and bushing assembly. The clutter of hydraulic lines and grease points makes servicing the competition’s turret assembly difficult to service. The load-bearing surface on their swing pin is less than 30 sq. inches compared to Diamond Boom Mowers 75 sq. inches.

Mounted Counter-weights
Diamond uses a tire-mounted counter-weight, allowing the tire to absorb all of the shock.

The competition uses an all-steel frame-mounted counter-weight. The shock load with their system is directed to the tractor frame making it susceptible to wear and tear.

Steel Hydraulic Lines
Hose failure is one of the most common maintenance problems, and most costly, with any hydraulic-driven machinery. Diamond Mowers utilize steel lines in place of rubber hydraulic hoses, whenever possible, to reduce maintenance cost, better manage routing and dissipate heat more efficiently.
Alamo mowers have their hydraulic hoses routed inside the boom.

More Cutting Strokes
Cutting is the name of the game when it comes to roadside mowing applications. Diamond Mowers uses a Tri-hex Carrier, that’s 3-blades rotating at an 1,750 rpm, equating to an astounding 5,250 cutting strokes per minute. The competition: 2 blades at 1,200 rpm equals 2,400 strokes per minute—no comparison!
Diamond provides nearly 120% more cutting strokes per minute, faster and more efficient mowing.

About Diamond Boom Mowers

Did you know Diamond Mower’s customer service is considered the best in the boom mowing industry?
Diamond Mowers is willing to provide warranty “at the mower.” All other manufacturers provide warranty at the dealership.
Diamond Mowers guarantees parts shipment for your boom mower in 72 hours or less.
If Diamond does not ship your parts in 72 hours or less we will give you the part for free and pay the freight.

Diamond Mowers actually covers bearings and belts under their standard warranty. All other manufacturers consider bearings and belts as wear items and are your responsibility from day one.
Diamond Mowers offers customers a choice on one, two or three years of warranty without any degradation of coverage during the full period of coverage. The extended warranty of Diamond is a full continuation of the first year’s coverage.
Diamond Mowers provides written and video documentation of compliance with all the ANSI/SAE safety standards that apply to their products. How does this fit with your operation’s liability concerns?
What other dealer in your trade area can offer the number of service facilities, service trucks and technicians to care for your purchase? This makes a huge difference in how long you may have to “wait in line.”
What other dealer Florida has more experience servicing heavy equipment “in the field.” For the most part, farm dealers are “in the shop” operations. Check how their service trucks are equipped and compare them to Ring Power’s field service trucks.

Ring Power is here to serve the farming, agricultural and mowing industries with the best ag tractors, farming implements, attachments and mowers in the business. Call toll free, 1-888-535-3380 or click below to see the Ring Power difference.

Managing Your Heavy Construction Equipment's Cost Per Hour

March 4, 2010 at 11:06 AMRing Power
A good planned maintenance for your heavy construction equipment can lower your machine's cost per hour.

In terms of construction equipment management, preventive maintenance is the key factor that has the greatest effect on your profits over the life of your heavy equipment. It is estimated that system contamination is the leading cause of more then 70% of construction equipment maintenancehydraulic system and major component failures. When heavy machinery is well maintained and inspected regularly, there’s a higher probability that potential problems will be caught early—before they turn into bigger, more costly issues.

According to Caterpillar’s SOMA (Site Operation Maintenance Advisor), major component life can be increased by 62% simply by improving maintenance practices from average to excellent.

Consider your current preventive maintenance practices and service needs and ask yourself, “Who is best qualified to provide these services?” As your Caterpillar® dealer, we are convinced that Ring Power’s Planned Maintenance Solutions can meet your maintenance needs in the most timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Planned Maintenance Solutions is more then just an oil and filter change for your construction equipment. It is a maintenance management system, designed to incorporates seven elements that are essential to keeping machine productivity high and owning and
operating costs low.

THE SEVEN ELEMENTS
1) Preventive Maintenance is the basic requirement of a good construction equipment maintenance program, and includes regular oil and filter changes as outlined in the manufacturer’s lubrication and maintenance manual.

2) Oil Sampling lets you know what is going on inside your machine. When tested at regular intervals, oil samples can forecast wear-related problems and keep minor problems from becoming a major failure.
PM Solutions will sample each compartment every 250 hours. Ring Power's oil testing lab technicians and product support staff closely monitor the oil sample results. Actionable oil samples are transmitted electronically to your PC, laptop or Blackberry so we can respond to potential problems quickly.

3) Inspections can detect problems that may otherwise go unnoticed. Small problems like oil leaks, worn belts or corroded batteries can lead to expensive downtime if not corrected in a timely manner. All inspections are written, reviewed and sent to you within 24 hours of when the service is performed.

4) Scheduling ensures all maintenance and inspections are performed on time, and at your convenience. PM Solutions operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week so maintenance will be performed around your work schedule.

5) Record Keeping documents machine repair history with details of component life and cost. Good record keeping helps identify problem areas that create high cost and downtime.

6) Repair Management is about maximizing the value of your heavy machinery investment. Oil sample trends, machine hours and condition are vital information in the decision making process of whether to repair, rebuild or replace your machine. Ring Power knows your equipment best. As a trusted advisor, we’ll be here over the life cycle of your machine. We’ll partner with you to maximize the value of your equipment investment and strengthen your reputation as a profitable operation.

7) Training helps your associates develop good daily work habits. As your maintenance provider, Ring Power is ready to fill the gaps by providing on-site training for your machine operators and maintenance personnel.

As a Planned Maintenance Solutions customer you can expect:

• A no cost warranty of 5-year/10,000-hour warranty on rebuilt power train components

• Environmental compliance in disposing of waste oil and filters
• Cost per hour billing that matches your expense with your workload. Only pay for the hours you have run your heavy equipment.
• ProductLink hardware and Equipment Manager software enabling remote equipment monitoring from your desktop. (supplied on most current models).

Preventive maintenance for your construction machinery delivers positive results—no matter how many machines you operate, how old your equipment is or what type of work you do. The key is to structure a PM program that meets all your business objectives, including productivity and cost goals. You manage your business from design to build—we will manage your construction equipment and cost per hour.
