Ring Power Achieves Gold for Heavy Equipment Service

May 25, 2017 at 9:25 AMRing Power

In March, Ring Power became the first Cat dealer in the Atlanta district to achieve Service Excellence Gold for delivering heavy equipment customers the highest quality in product support facilities, processes and culture. Only three other Cat dealers in North America ― 13 worldwide ― achieved the Gold rating for Service Excellence Performance in 2016.

This is truly a significant achievement and one that is not easily earned. To rate a dealership’s service operations, “Service Metrics” data on efficiency, effectiveness and customer satisfaction are gathered and analyzed on a quarterly basis. These objective data are then combined with subjective “Service Attributes” data on safety, sustainability, operational management, leadership, customer focus, learning and development, innovation, employee engagement and 37 other criteria, which are gathered once a year during a face-to-face meeting between the Caterpillar district and dealer senior service management teams. The resulting scores rank each dealer’s service performance relative to that of all Cat dealers worldwide.

Kudos to all our service and support personnel for earning Ring Power a place on the elite team of SEP Gold Cat dealers!

Leaking Hydraulic Cylinders Can Contaminate Hydraulic System

June 15, 2010 at 4:51 PMRing Power
hydraulic system contamination

Know the effects of contamination on your heavy equipment, forklift or machinery's hydraulic system.

Hydraulic fluid contamination has the potential to damage your entire hydraulic system in two different ways.

1. Accelerating Hydraulic Component Wear
hydraulic system contamination tolerances
From 75 to 85 percent of all hydraulic pump, motor, cylinder and valve failures can be traced to fluid contamination. Due to the extremely small tolerances of today’s hydraulic systems, even particles that can not be seen by the naked eye can cause damage to your hydraulic system, leading to costly repairs.

2. Reducing Hydraulic System Efficiency

Machine productivity and efficient hydraulics go hand-in-hand. If a hydraulic system isn't performing at peak efficiency, it's robbing machine performance. Efficiency losses occur gradually, and can decrease productivity by as much as 16-20 percent before being detected by the operator. Over time, these "invisible" efficiency losses can also lead to increased fuel consumption.

Prevent Hydraulic System Damage

Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaning for Buses, Tractor Trailer Rigs and On-highway Trucks

December 28, 2009 at 11:25 AMRing Power
Diesel Particulate Filter DPF Cleaning

Lately, there has plenty of discussion regarding the EPA emissions requirements for on-highway diesel engines. The use of a pollution control device called a diesel particulate filter or DPF is one way to reduce diesel engine pollution emitted from buses, heavy-duty trucks, tractor-trailer rigs and on-highway trucks. diesel particulate filter DPF cleaner

What is a Diesel Particulate Filter?

Diesel Particulate Filter or DPF for short, is a filter designed to remove particulate and soot from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. All on-highway diesel engines sold as 2007 model or newer must have a Diesel Particulate Filter installed.

How does the DPF function?

Every on-highway truck that has a DPF installed also has regeneration light on the dashboard. As long as the truck is going faster than 20 mph when the filter gets full, the engine will do an automatic regeneration and burn off the collected particulate. What is left in the filter is a small amount of soot or ash, similar to the ash in a fireplace. If the truck sits at idle for long periods then the light on the dash will come on, alerting the driver to perform a manual regeneration.

The more ash collected in the filter, the less time required between regeneration intervals. As the diesel particulate filter becomes clogged, the diesel engine will begin losing power. Warning lights will alert the driver and if the driver does not get the filter cleaned the engine will shut off completely.

How much is a new Diesel Particulate Filter?

The cost for a new Diesel Particulate Filter varies between $5,000 and $10,000.

Can a DPF be cleaned?

Yes. A DPF is a filter and all filters eventually clog. A diesel particulate filter traps all of the particulate matter (PM) or NOx before exhausted out into the atmosphere. The engine goes through a regeneration process that essentially burns the collected particulate matter at a temperature of about 1500° F. Avoid expensive DPF replacement costs by cleaning your diesel particulate filter. Regular DPF cleaning extends the life of your filter and keeps your diesel engine running at peak performance power.

How often should a DPF be cleaned?

Cleaning a Diesel Particulate Filter depends on the engine manufacturer’s recommendations. Volvo, Cummins, Caterpillar, GMC and Detroit Diesel all have different recommendations for cleaning the DPF used with their diesel engines. Please click here to see our brochure for details.

What are some engine conditions that probably mean it is time for a DPF cleaning?

• Turbo failure
• Excessive regenerations
• Sluggish power
