Vertical-Lift 259B Series 3—with Fully Suspended Undercarriage—Is Powerful, Agile Addition to the Cat® Compact Track Loader Range 259B3 Compact Track Loader

The new 259B3 is a high-performance, highly maneuverable addition to the Cat Compact Track Loader (CTL) range. By combining its small-frame CTL platform with the Cat C3.4T DIT engine, high breakout forces and strong auxiliary hydraulic performance, Caterpillar designed the 259B3 as a "power dense" machine capable of taking on the toughest jobs in confined spaces. With premium features such as an independent, fully suspended steel undercarriage, aggressive steel embedded rubber tracks, powerful hydraulics and refined operator's station, the 259B3 completes the CTL line by providing a durable, versatile machine that works productively in poor soils and harsh environments.

Rated at 71 net horsepower (53 KW) the 259B3 is powered by the C3.4T DIT engine, which complies with U.S. EPA Tier-4 Interim and E.U. Stage-3A emissions regulations. This proven engine delivers ample speed and torque in difficult applications, and combined with the Cat anti-stall system, the 259B3 can operate at part-throttle, reducing fuel consumption and lowering sound levels.

At 35 percent tipping load, rated operating capacity for the 259B3 is 2,065 pounds (937 kg), and 2,950 pounds (1 338 kg) at 50 percent tipping load, increasing to 3,000 pounds (1 360 kg) with the optional counterweight. Vertical-lift loader linkage gives the new CTL 120 inches (3 046 mm) of lift height, in combination with excellent reach, for easy truck loading and precise material placement.

Durable, easy-riding undercarriage

The 259B3 is the only machine in its class with a standard, independent, fully suspended undercarriage. Designed and manufactured by Caterpillar, the undercarriage uses four heavy-duty torsion axles (concentric tubular members buffered by an elastomeric material). These extremely durable axles move independently to isolate the machine chassis from the undercarriage and absorb much of the shock from rough-terrain operation. The customer realizes the benefits of suspension in the form of smooth travel, even at high speed, excellent load retention, increased productivity, as well as extended machine and undercarriage component life.

High-performance hydraulics

Hydraulic pumps for the 259B3's implement system (boom and bucket) and auxiliary system (for powering work tools) are driven directly from the engine, eliminating intermediate drive belts to assure maximum efficiency, performance and reliability. The robust auxiliary system supplies oil flow up to 22 gpm (83 L/min) at pressures to 3,335 psi (23 000 kPa)—generating a calculated hydraulic-horsepower rating of 42.8 (31.9 kW).

Operator comfort, convenience and safety

Designed for optimal comfort, convenience and safety, the 259B3's spacious operator's compartment features low-effort, pilot-control joysticks—the right controlling lift and tilt functions, and the left, direction and speed. Joysticks provide the convenience of one-touch control of continuous or intermittent auxiliary flow. With both hand and foot throttles as standard equipment, the 259B3 can be set for constant-speed operation (trenching or milling, for instance), or speed can be varied (truck loading and load-and-carry). An anti-stall system is designed to prevent engine stalling, even at part-throttle, by constantly balancing speed and torque demands.

Ring Power, The Cat Rental Store, is North and Central Florida's Caterpillar Dealer. Ring Power rents, sells and leases Cat equipment by the day, week, month or longer. We supply the youngest fleet of construction equipment -- the average age of our fleet is less than 18 months. Our competitors' fleets, like Neff, Hertz, United, RSC, Sunbelt, average more than 40 months and in some cases more than 50 months.

Other rental houses carry multiple lines of equipment, like Bobcat, Komatsu, John Deere, and Kobelco. Ring Power supplies one brand: Caterpillar. If we have to swap machines, it will be a Cat machine. Unlike the competition that will substitute any brand, which creates operator confusion and lowers productivity.

Ring Power’s, Cat® Rental Store Advantage construction equiment rent

In challenging times, many competitive dealers fold-up and go away. That is not the case with your trusted Cat Dealer, Ring Power. We offer equipment for your jobsite, service and support that outlast the hard times as well as the good times. Machines that can outwork anything else in your fleet and still deliver lower fuel consumption and lower operating costs.

Here are a few additional reasons to do business with a Ring Power’s Cat Rental Store in these tough economic times:

  • - The average age of our skid steers, compact loaders, mini wheel loaders, mini excavators, and multi-terrain loaders is less than 18 months. Our competitors’ fleets average more than 40 months and in some cases more than 50.Youngest Fleet in the Industry
  • Equipment Service - Ring Power has over 150 construction equipment service vehicles covering the entire north and central Florida. Ring Power’s Cat Rental Store has dedicated service vehicles plus onsite Preventative Maintenance lube trucks.
  • Cat Construction Equipment Lineup – Our competitors carry multiple brands of equipment (Komatsu, Deere, Kobelco, etc.) Caterpillar is one brand/one vendor for parts. If we have to swap machines, it will be a Cat machine. Your operator will be in a machine he is familiar with and be more productive. The competition will substitute any brand, which can create confusion to the operator.
  • Field Serviceability – We dispatch certified Caterpillar mechanics and Caterpillar parts for Caterpillar machines. The competition services multiple brands, which slows down response time in the field. Competitors spend more time "assessing" situations in the field and locating correct parts, which causes more downtime.
  • Complete offering - We offer customers the option to rent new or low-hour used machines, Purchase new or low-hour used machines, Rent to Purchase (three options to choose from), Lease, or Finance In-house. Our rental competition will sell used equipment, but there usually is no warranty left, and they typically do not provide any service after the sale. Their Rental Purchase Option (RPO) requirements are limited if they offer RPOs at all. (Most offer only 60-70% to apply to purchase, and once the RPO expires the customer must buy or lose entire investment.)
  • Resale Value - Caterpillar machines consistently generate higher resale values. Our previously owned allied products are often purchased by our competitors, which is a testament to the quality and service history of our fleet. We carry Genie manlifts, boomlifts and light towers, JCB dumpttrucks and rough terrain forklifts, Vac-Con vacuum trucks, Sullair portable air compressors, Lay-more sweepers, Lull tellehandlers, Kawasaki Mules, and Terex Utility Trucks and digger derricks.
  • Parts Availability – Caterpillar has the best parts availability in the industry, which equates to less downtime for you.
  • Cat Access Account – The ability to have a credit line with CAT Access Account helps transient contractors perform interstate work easily.
  • Locations and Fleet Size – Centralized dispatch for 13 locations with more than 2,450 rental machines allows us to move equipment where needed and share fleet resources for our customers’ benefit.

Compact Track Loader Undercarriage Tips

February 10, 2009 at 10:14 AMRing Power
An overview of suggested maintenance for Cat® CTL undercarriage

Because compact track loaders (CTL) have different undercarriage than skid steer and multi-terrain loaders, an overview of suggested maintenance for Cat® CTL undercarriage will be helpful. Cat CTL Undercarriage

The Cat-designed and -built undercarriage uses heavy-duty torsion axles for completely independent movement. This gives you smooth travel, better load retention and greater productivity, and allows work in soft underfoot conditions. Steel embeds span the track width to provide durability while continuously wound cables hold the embeds in place and ensure the track does not stretch.

Maintenance Techniques

  • Use a recoil grease tensioner to maintain proper track tension.
  • Clean the undercarriage at least once daily, especially between the roller and idler wheels and around the sprocket. It is easier to remove materials like mud at the end of a shift rather than later when it has dried.
  •  The front and rear torsion axles require daily greasing.

Operating Practices

  • Make gradual three-point turns to avoid unnecessary wear. Use counter-rotations only when necessary; for example, in confined areas.
  • Working up and down slopes reduces the side-loading wear that occurs when you work across a slope. Keep the heaviest end of the machine uphill.
  • Approach transitions (for example, going over a curb) at a 90° angle. Avoid work where a track is not fully supported by the ground.
  • When back dragging, keep the full length of the track on the ground and the loader arms in the float position.

Contact your Ring Power Representative to discuss your Cat CTL or other undercarriage needs or email us for more information.
