The South Carolina Lineman's Rodeo, now in its third year, took place last weekend on March 24-25, 2023, at Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Ridgeland, South Carolina. The event brought together some of the best linemen in the state to showcase their skills and compete in various challenges and events.
The rodeo is not just a fun event; it is was also an opportunity to recognize the profession of line work and showcase the safety, skill, and education of the men and women who work tirelessly to provide us with the luxury of electricity. Only active South Carolina electric cooperative linemen were allowed to compete.
This year's competition featured events such as the Hurtman Rescue, which tested the linemen's ability to safely rescue a fellow lineman who has been injured on the job. Challenges also included Cutout & Arrestor Changeout, Digger Derrick Obstacle Course, Double Crossarm Changeout, Deadend Insulator Changeout, Insulator Replacement & Conductor Tie-in, Secondary Cable Replacement in Conduit, and GFC Relay.
The rodeo was a testament to the dedication and commitment of these linemen to their profession, and a celebration of their hard work.
