What Is Diesel Exhaust Fluid and Is It Safe for Farm Tractors?

Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), also knows as AdBlue, is a non-hazardous, high-purity, colorless solution containing 32.5% automotive grade urea. The rest is de-ionized water. diesel exhaust fluidThe automotive grade urea is made up of ammonia and carbon dioxide just like other urea products. The difference is that DEF has all impurities removed that could interfere with AGCO and Challenger’s e3™ System. DEF is available at all Ring Power locations selling e3-equipped products, many truck stops (such as Pilot, Travel America, Flying J, and Loves), and truck dealerships. The list of available outlets is growing daily.
Urea has many uses. It’s used as an artificial fertilizer and is found in cosmetics and other products. It’s manufactured to ISO and SAE standards. Facilities that comply with these standards are inspected and certified by the American Petroleum Institute to ensure the highest quality product.
DEF is non-toxic, non-hazardous, and requires no special permits or licenses. Tier 3 e3 agricultural tractors will use up to 3% of DEF as compared to diesel fuel consumption. Even with a small 8-gallon tank, that is roughly one DEF for two fuel fills.
