Air Compressor Efficiency Saves Electric Utlity Costs—May, 2012

May 10, 2012 at 11:52 AMRing Power

Pan Am Railways facility saved $52,000 in power costs and received $94,000 in power company rebates by utilizing new Sullair electric air compressors.

Once a part of “the world’s most experienced airline,” Pan Am Railways is a freight carrier with 110 locomotives and hauls over a network of more than 2,000 miles track in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Canada's Atlantic provinces.

sullair electric air compressor

The railway operates a freight hub and rolling stock repair facility in East Deerfield, MA, employing more than 700 employees. Compressed air is required for three shifts, 24/7, in the main repair shops to operate air tools as well as in the distribution rail yards to check coupling and pneumatic switching.

A compressed air audit and, as a result, recommended two Sullair 24KT™ 150hp model V200TS two-stage air compressors which would alternate hours of operation. This recommendation was based upon a projected power savings of 217,377 kWh per year and a $78,000 rebate from the local power company, subject to verification.

The complete installation includes two Sullair V-200TS two-stage tandem rotary screw air compressors and two Sullair SSD desiccant dryers. These compressors feature variable capacity control (VCC), variable speed drive, EES Energy Efficiency System that recovers compressor-generated heat and 24KT™, Sullair’s extended life fluid. The combination of the two-stage air end, variable capacity control, variable speed drive and EES has proven these Sullair compressors to be the most effective in saving energy and reducing total life cycle costs.

Ring Power supplies Florida with a selection of electric industrial air compressors used in a wide range of applications from 17 CFM to 3095 CFM and 100 PSI to 350 PSI. mtv-material transfer vehicle by weiler

Weiler improved upon their current MTV, re-named E1250A, with a simplified clean-out and multiple drop-out floors.

What is a paving material transfer vehicle?
Operating in front of the asphalt paver, material transfer vehicles move paving material from the dump truck, up and into the hopper of the paver, allowing for virtually continuous non-stop paving. Several advantages for paving companies to use MTVs include continual non-stop paving, reducing truck waiting time at the paving site, reduced temperature differentials of paving material and increased rideability.

What are the benefits of using an MTV?
For starters, utilizing an MTV in any asphalt paving project is the ability for increased production by allowing non-stop paving. Material Transfer Vehicles also minimize material segregation by re-blending the asphalt material inside the hopper. Additional benefits of incorporating an MTV on a paving  jobsite are…
– minimize thermal segregation by blending together cold and hot asphalt in the hopper.
– increase ride quality
– decrease trucking requirement
– maintain consistent paver operation
– ability to tailor paving needs to the job

Interested in renting an MTV?
Renting an MTV could increase your bottom line. By renting, you know your costs upfront with no large capital expenditure upfront. And Ring Power’s asphalt transfer vehicles are ready when you are with no idle time between jobs.

Ring Power® Celebrates 50 Years as Full-Line Caterpillar® Dealer

March 26, 2012 at 10:21 AMRing Power
This month Ring Power Corporation, in St. Augustine, Florida, celebrates 50 years as a full-line dealer of Caterpillar earthmoving, engine and material handling equipment.

Ring Power Corporation proudly announces their 50-year, golden anniversary as a Caterpillar dealership in Florida. In 1961, L.C. Ringhaver, the owner of the world’s largest shrimp boat manufacturer, Diesel Engine Sales, Inc. (DESCO), acquired the Caterpillar engine dealership rights from Jacksonville-based Gibbs Corporation. Originally established in St. Augustine, Fla., Ring Power Corp. was founded to sell and service Cat® marine engines to Northeast Florida’s thriving shrimp trawler industry.

Following the death of Cat dealer Lobrano Machinery Company’s president and owner, Tom Lobrano, Ring Power Corporation was awarded the dealer territory in Jacksonville, Ocala and Tallahassee, Fla. for the full line of Caterpillar equipment in March of 1962.

For the next 14 years, L.C. Ringhaver successfully developed the North Florida Caterpillar dealership, Ring Power Corporation, into a customer-focused, service-oriented establishment. Upon L.C. Ringhaver’s death in 1976, his eldest son, Lance Ringhaver, assumed leadership of the company as President and Chairman, a role he would retain until his acquisition of the Central Florida Caterpillar dealership, Rozier Machinery, 10 years later.

In 1986, Caterpillar awarded the Central Florida dealership rights to the Ringhavers. Lance Ringhaver moved to Tampa, Fla. to start a new dealership, Ringhaver Equipment Company, while Randy Ringhaver took leadership of Ring Power Corporation in Jacksonville. For nearly two decades, both Cat dealerships continued to flourish, taking on new business opportunities and products such as an expanded power systems line, rental equipment operations, forklifts, cranes, air compressors and utility equipment, all backed by parts and product support.

In 2004, Ringhaver Equipment Company and Ring Power Corporation officially merged into one consolidated company with Randy Ringhaver as Chairman and President of the new Ring Power Corporation. The combined Cat dealership territory now consists of 44 counties throughout North and Central Florida.

Ring Power Corporation, the North and Central Florida Caterpillar dealer, is headquartered in St. Augustine, Florida. Ring Power is comprised of eight divisions and has 50 years of experience servicing and supporting Caterpillar and allied equipment.

Tips on Buying a Used Generator

March 23, 2012 at 11:40 AMRing Power
When purchasing a used generator there are many things to consider. Ring Power's qualified, experienced Power Systems professionals will help you find the used generator that meets your needs and requirements.

There are many benefits to purchasing a used generator. Many companies routinely purchase used generators because it is often the most cost effective way to buy high quality generators. Used equipment Used Generators for Salegenerally becomes available for a number of reasons, such as upgrades or changes in product. Many times this equipment has low hours and is in excellent condition. There are a number of factors that must be taken into consideration before purchasing a used generator. When shopping for a reliable used generator, some of the first things you should check are the hours, age and history of the generator.  A generator that was used as a backup source or standby is probably in better shape than one that was used as a primary source. However, there are times when usage information is not available.   In this case, the reputation of the seller becomes extremely important. It is important to buy from a reputable dealer that has had a successful history in the industry and will stand behind the equipment they sell. Some questions you should ask yourself - Does the seller have testing equipment on site? Do they have trained in-house technicians? What is their history of maintaining and repairing diesel engines? Manufacturers like Caterpillar, Cummins and Detroit Diesel have a long history of making high quality equipment that last for years when it is properly maintained.

Diesel generators are complex pieces of machinery that need to be properly maintained and tested by qualified technicians. You want a used generator to be there when you need it the most. All the more reason to make sure you are dealing with a provider you trust. To eliminate risks, we recommend buying a used generator from a qualified professional backed by years of experience. This is what we offer at Ring Power. We’ve been in business since 1962 and we continue to provide for our customers every day.

Hopefully, this article has helped identify some important criteria to keep in mind when buying a used generator. There are numerous considerations when purchasing a used generator. Please check out our inventory of used generators.  If you have any questions or need assistance, please call Lyndon Schultz at 904-494-1278 or Victor Flores at 904-494-7311.

Sullair Air Compressors are the Choice of PolarClean for Cryogenic Blasting—December 2011

December 28, 2011 at 11:42 AMRing Power
PolarClean uses dry ice and sullair air compressor as a method to remove material and clean surfaces.

Cleaning with dry ice is a concept that’s quickly expanding. The PolarClean system uses small rice-size pellets of dry ice and shoots them out of a nozzle with compressed air and Sullair portable air compressor. It’s similar to sandblasting, high-pressure water or steam blasting but with superior results. The -110°F (-78°C) temperature of the dry ice "blasts" the material to be removed, causing it to shrink and lose adhesion from its subsurface. When the dry ice penetrates the material to be removed, and it contacts the underlying surface, the warmer subsurface causes the dry ice to convert back into carbon dioxide gas. Once converted, the gas now has 800 times greater volume and expands behind the material, speeding up its removal. Only this material must be disposed because the dry ice vaporizes into the atmosphere.

sullair portable air compressor PolarClean dry ice blasting

Replaces Sandblasting
This method is superior to sand blasting because dry ice eliminates equipment damage. It does not erode or wear away the targeted surface as traditional grit media. Therefore, integrity and critical tolerances are preserved. With abrasive cleaning methods, equipment must be transported to and from the dedicated cleaning area. With dry ice blasting, most cleaning is done in place.

PolarClean uses a Sullair 375 AF portable air compressor to deliver the clean dry air necessary for dry ice blasting. Click to view common applications for dry ice blasting.

Ring Power supplies diesel portable air compressors for a wide range of applications from 125 CFM to 2232 CFM and 80 PSI to 365 PSI. Rent, buy or lease any of our air compressors today. Contact us for more information on all of our compressed air systems.

Stand-up Narrow Aisle Reach Trucks vs. Jungheinrich's Side-Seated—December, 2011

December 21, 2011 at 5:07 PMRing Power

Jungheinrich's side-seated moving mast reach truck is a better choice.

side seated reach truck is safer, less operator fatigue and more productive operator

Think for a moment of a mobile piece of equipment that requires that the operator stand in order to address the workload at hand.

Give up yet? It’s fairly difficult to do. In fact, for all practical purposes there is really one style of equipment that can be found in only one industry, which situates the operator in a standing position. That product is a Stand Up Narrow Aisle Reach Truck. And while this style of truck dominates the narrow aisle reach truck market in the United States, we have an alternative that might be the right product and the right solution for your materials handling application.

Whether you are working in narrow aisles currently with Stand Up Reach Trucks or running out of space and contemplating a change to a tighter aisle, we encourage you to take a look at the Jungheinrich ETV Side-Seated Moving Mast Reach Truck, nominated for 2011 Product of the Year by Material Handling Wholesaler.

Although we’re discussing a forklift, what’s really under discussion here is an idea… the idea that a seated worker or forklift operator is more effective, safer, more comfortable and ultimately more productive than one who stands. Let’s look briefly at the side-seated reach truck concept.

SAFER
First and foremost, the seated position offers a significant safety enhancement in the sense that inertia makes less of an impact on an operator’s body (with upper legs, torso, lower and middle back firmly and safely in contact with the operator seat), than it would on a truck drivers feet only. In other words, think of the results of trying to push over a person who is seated, versus one standing. Obviously, the seated individual would be more difficult to move.

LESS OPERATOR FATIGUE
Secondly, a seated operator position offers the ability to use your hands AND feet for operating the equipment while sitting. In the standing position, your feet are removed from useful productivity due to being needed for… you guessed it, standing. You can’t stand without feet, and while you’re standing – those same feet can no longer be used for accelerator and brake pedals.

In short, seated operators are positioned in a safer work environment and will experience less fatigue through the course of the shift. In fact, the level of overall comfort, feeling of security and the ability to operate a machine utilizing hands and feet will impact productivity significantly.

MORE PRODUCTIVE
Cycle or throughput tests of Stand Up Narrow Aisle Reach Trucks versus Side-Seated, Moving Mast Reach trucks routinely show productivity increases of +20-percent! In simple terms, this means that a warehouse utilizing a fleet of 10 reach trucks, could potentially eliminate 1-2 trucks from the facility and maintain the current level of pallet throughput and productivity. Imagine the savings to be realized by reducing the size of your current lift truck fleet by 20 percent.

In addition to the above features, this style of truck also offers a very versatile capability, with the proper mast/lift height configuration – this truck can also work directly from the “trailer to rack,” again enabling our customers to eliminate a step in the unloading and storage process, as well as another opportunity to eliminate now unnecessary trucks from their applications… in this case, perhaps a standard sit down forklift or an electric pallet truck being used for trailer unloading and product staging.

jungheinrich side-seated reach truck features

Tremendously enhanced ergonomics and operator safety, increased productivity, fleet/cost reduction opportunities, packaged under the Jungheinrich name while working in aisles as narrow as 9’0” feet!
