Ring Power® Celebrates 50 Years as Full-Line Caterpillar® Dealer

March 26, 2012 at 4:21 AMRing Power
This month Ring Power Corporation, in St. Augustine, Florida, celebrates 50 years as a full-line dealer of Caterpillar earthmoving, engine and material handling equipment.

Ring Power Corporation proudly announces their 50-year, golden anniversary as a Caterpillar dealership in Florida. In 1961, L.C. Ringhaver, the owner of the world’s largest shrimp boat manufacturer, Diesel Engine Sales, Inc. (DESCO), acquired the Caterpillar engine dealership rights from Jacksonville-based Gibbs Corporation. Originally established in St. Augustine, Fla., Ring Power Corp. was founded to sell and service Cat® marine engines to Northeast Florida’s thriving shrimp trawler industry.

Following the death of Cat dealer Lobrano Machinery Company’s president and owner, Tom Lobrano, Ring Power Corporation was awarded the dealer territory in Jacksonville, Ocala and Tallahassee, Fla. for the full line of Caterpillar equipment in March of 1962.

For the next 14 years, L.C. Ringhaver successfully developed the North Florida Caterpillar dealership, Ring Power Corporation, into a customer-focused, service-oriented establishment. Upon L.C. Ringhaver’s death in 1976, his eldest son, Lance Ringhaver, assumed leadership of the company as President and Chairman, a role he would retain until his acquisition of the Central Florida Caterpillar dealership, Rozier Machinery, 10 years later.

In 1986, Caterpillar awarded the Central Florida dealership rights to the Ringhavers. Lance Ringhaver moved to Tampa, Fla. to start a new dealership, Ringhaver Equipment Company, while Randy Ringhaver took leadership of Ring Power Corporation in Jacksonville. For nearly two decades, both Cat dealerships continued to flourish, taking on new business opportunities and products such as an expanded power systems line, rental equipment operations, forklifts, cranes, air compressors and utility equipment, all backed by parts and product support.

In 2004, Ringhaver Equipment Company and Ring Power Corporation officially merged into one consolidated company with Randy Ringhaver as Chairman and President of the new Ring Power Corporation. The combined Cat dealership territory now consists of 44 counties throughout North and Central Florida.

Ring Power Corporation, the North and Central Florida Caterpillar dealer, is headquartered in St. Augustine, Florida. Ring Power is comprised of eight divisions and has 50 years of experience servicing and supporting Caterpillar and allied equipment.

Stand-up Narrow Aisle Reach Trucks vs. Jungheinrich's Side-Seated—December, 2011

December 21, 2011 at 11:07 AMRing Power

Jungheinrich's side-seated moving mast reach truck is a better choice.

side seated reach truck is safer, less operator fatigue and more productive operator

Think for a moment of a mobile piece of equipment that requires that the operator stand in order to address the workload at hand.

Give up yet? It’s fairly difficult to do. In fact, for all practical purposes there is really one style of equipment that can be found in only one industry, which situates the operator in a standing position. That product is a Stand Up Narrow Aisle Reach Truck. And while this style of truck dominates the narrow aisle reach truck market in the United States, we have an alternative that might be the right product and the right solution for your materials handling application.

Whether you are working in narrow aisles currently with Stand Up Reach Trucks or running out of space and contemplating a change to a tighter aisle, we encourage you to take a look at the Jungheinrich ETV Side-Seated Moving Mast Reach Truck, nominated for 2011 Product of the Year by Material Handling Wholesaler.

Although we’re discussing a forklift, what’s really under discussion here is an idea… the idea that a seated worker or forklift operator is more effective, safer, more comfortable and ultimately more productive than one who stands. Let’s look briefly at the side-seated reach truck concept.

SAFER
First and foremost, the seated position offers a significant safety enhancement in the sense that inertia makes less of an impact on an operator’s body (with upper legs, torso, lower and middle back firmly and safely in contact with the operator seat), than it would on a truck drivers feet only. In other words, think of the results of trying to push over a person who is seated, versus one standing. Obviously, the seated individual would be more difficult to move.

LESS OPERATOR FATIGUE
Secondly, a seated operator position offers the ability to use your hands AND feet for operating the equipment while sitting. In the standing position, your feet are removed from useful productivity due to being needed for… you guessed it, standing. You can’t stand without feet, and while you’re standing – those same feet can no longer be used for accelerator and brake pedals.

In short, seated operators are positioned in a safer work environment and will experience less fatigue through the course of the shift. In fact, the level of overall comfort, feeling of security and the ability to operate a machine utilizing hands and feet will impact productivity significantly.

MORE PRODUCTIVE
Cycle or throughput tests of Stand Up Narrow Aisle Reach Trucks versus Side-Seated, Moving Mast Reach trucks routinely show productivity increases of +20-percent! In simple terms, this means that a warehouse utilizing a fleet of 10 reach trucks, could potentially eliminate 1-2 trucks from the facility and maintain the current level of pallet throughput and productivity. Imagine the savings to be realized by reducing the size of your current lift truck fleet by 20 percent.

In addition to the above features, this style of truck also offers a very versatile capability, with the proper mast/lift height configuration – this truck can also work directly from the “trailer to rack,” again enabling our customers to eliminate a step in the unloading and storage process, as well as another opportunity to eliminate now unnecessary trucks from their applications… in this case, perhaps a standard sit down forklift or an electric pallet truck being used for trailer unloading and product staging.

jungheinrich side-seated reach truck features

Tremendously enhanced ergonomics and operator safety, increased productivity, fleet/cost reduction opportunities, packaged under the Jungheinrich name while working in aisles as narrow as 9’0” feet!

Forklift Manufacturer Celebrates 350,000th Forklift — August 2011

    August 26, 2011 at 6:45 AMRing Power
Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. celebrates milestone with production of 350,000th forklift.

Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. celebrates milestone with production of 350,000th forklift. The MCFA forklift, number 350,000, will be used in fabrication and assembly tasks around MCFA facilities.

Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. (MCFA), a leading provider of forklifts in the United States, Mexico, Canada and Latin America, recently celebrated the manufacturing of its milestone 350,000th forklift, a feat equivalent to producing enough forklifts to stretch across the state of Texas. MCFA reached the landmark number through the manufacturing and distribution of three distinct brands of material handling equipment – Cat® lift trucks, Mitsubishi forklift trucks and Jungheinrich® warehouse products.

On August 18, more than 700 MCFA employees, including recently appointed MCFA President Hiroshi Nagai, gathered for an ice cream social to celebrate the manufacturing milestone. The 350,000th forklift, a member of the 3,000–7,000 lb. Internal Combustion (IC) Pneumatic Tire forklift family, painted blue and branded MCFA, was on display and later will be used in fabrication and assembly tasks around MCFA facilities.

MCFA formed in 1992 when Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) entered into a business relationship with Caterpillar Industrial Inc. (CII). The company produced its 100,000th forklift in 1998 and four years later, in 2002, moved into its current headquarters in West Houston. In 2005, MCFA celebrated the shipment of its 250,000th forklift and now in 2011 celebrates its latest milestone with the production of the 350,000th forklift from its Houston manufacturing facility.

“MCFA prides itself on manufacturing quality and reliable products,” said Jay Gusler, director of operations, MCFA. “We’re excited to reach this milestone of 350,000 forklifts produced from our Houston manufacturing facility and appreciate the support of our employees, dealer network and customers in helping us realize this major company achievement.”

Ring Power Lift Trucks leases and finances a wide variety forklifts, from pneumatic tire IC forklifts to efficient electric cushion and pneumatic tire forklifts, from container hanlders by Kalmar and Linde to narrow aisle warehouse forklifts by Jungheinrich, Mitsubishi Forklifts and Cat Lift Trucks. This past spring, the 2011 Florida SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference drew to a close at the Manatee Civic Center in Bradenton, where over 3000 students, educators, business people and supporters from across the state gathered for the 44th annual event. In all, more than 1300 students from 83 high schools, technical centers and colleges throughout Florida competed in 188 skills and leadership contests—the largest number of contests and greatest number of schools in the history of the conference!

Ring Power Corporation supports the mission of SkillsUSA by taking part every year in the organization’s state-level competitions. This year, nine students competed in the Diesel Equipment Technology trials, which were held in Ring Power’s Sarasota’s heavy equipment shops. Tampa Training Instructor Josh Markosen volunteered his services as a judge of the contestants’ hydraulic fundamentals skills; Ring Power Training Instructor Bob Delp judged contestants on electrical fundamentals skills; Sarasota Heavy Equipment Technician James Freeman judged their electronic engine skills; Sarasota Heavy Equipment Technician Josh Ritter judged their preventive maintenance skills; and Sarasota Heavy Equipment Service Business Manager Nathan Worley judged job interviewing skills.

Dwayne Rainer, Lakeland Cat Rental Store Field Service Technician, has been involved with SkillsUSA since he was a student. In 1990, when he was class president of his school’s chapter, Rainer took first place in the Florida diesel equipment technology competition and fourth place in the National Competition. Last year, as event chairman of the diesel equipment technology competition, Rainer organized the flow of students through the skill stations and assisted with judging, tallying and submitting the final competition results. This year, Rainer served as coordinator of the competition.

    Leasing a Forklift? Tips & Advice on Forklift Leasing & Financing—July 2011

    July 8, 2011 at 7:03 AMRing Power
    financing and leasing forklift tips

Is your company preparing to sign a lease for a forklift? Here's some tips from Ring Power Lift Trucks when leasing or financing a new or used forklift.forklift leasing and financing

Know your leasing company. Only deal with reputable finance companies that you are familiar with.  Many brokers call themselves ‘leasing companies’, when in fact they are not the funding source.  They act as ‘middle men’ and place the lease paper with various financial institutions. It is always better to deal directly with a leasing company that is a direct source of funds. Not only are you going to get a better lease payment, but it will be easier to determine if this is a finance company you are comfortable working with.

UCC ‘blanket’ liens. Some forklift finance companies will file a blanket lien covering all assets on a business. Lessees should review the documents to ensure that the UCC filing is only on the specific forklift and material handling equipment that they are leasing or financing.

Attention to Details. Make sure the ‘Return Provisions’ are in line with your application, your environment, and/or your usage. You may otherwise be charged for excessive hours or repairs given the actual run time and environment that the forklift was exposed.

Understanding Fees. Understand what fees may be charged by a leasing company. Some companies charge as much as $500 to write and book a forklift lease transaction.

Read Your Lease Contract. Know what the terms and conditions of the lease are.  Eliminate surprises at maturity of the forklift lease.

Follow this simple guidelines and you should find yourself much more confident when negotiating your next forklift leasing deal. Call or email any of Florida's Ring Power Lift Trucks locations for additional assistance or que
    stions.

Caterpillar Update on Impact of Crisis in Japan—April 2011

    April 6, 2011 at 2:48 AMRing Power
Caterpillar Inc. and Caterpillar Japan Limited actively monitor the developments in Japan

Ring Power Corporation, reports Caterpillar’s ongoing commitment to aid in Japan. Over the last week, Caterpillar Inc. and Caterpillar Japan Limited have actively monitored the on-going developments in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami to report ramifications for Cat and the Caterpillar dealer network.

While continuing to provide support for all employees living and working in Japan, Caterpillar is focusing resources from around the world to determine the full scope and impact on the company’s supply chain. Caterpillar's facilities in Tokyo, Akashi and Sagami were not damaged by the earthquake, and are outside of the current area the Japanese government has declared as a mandatory evacuation zone. To date, both the Sagami and Akashi facilities have continued to operate and produce product, and the disruption to the supply chain in Japan has not stopped production at other Caterpillar facilities around the world. Cat is actively developing alternative sources for components produced by Japanese-based suppliers, should they not be able to fulfill orders. Although Cat’s Japanese interests appear sound, Caterpillar cautions it is possible some facilities may be sporadically impacted throughout Japan’s recovery.

In addition to Caterpillar’s economic research on behalf of suppliers, employees, dealers and customers, Caterpillar Japan Limited has pledged $1 million to support disaster relief through in-kind equipment donations of machinery and generators to Japanese governmental agencies. In America, the Caterpillar Foundation has announced a $1 million grant to the American Red Cross with an additional promise to match up to $500,000 in contributions made by Caterpillar employees, retirees and dealer employees to the Red Cross before April 14, 2011.

Ring Power Corporation has more than 45 years of experience selling, renting, servicing and supporting Caterpillar® and allied equipment throughout North and Central Florida. Additional information about the Ring Power organization, its products and services can be found on the Internet at ringpower.com.

Forklift Renting Can Be Smart Budgeting—March 2011

    March 11, 2011 at 10:18 AMRing Power
material handling equipment rental can be smart budgeting

No matter what size company, you’re bound to encounter items in your warehouse or jobsite that won’t be used on a regular basis. And these items could represent a sizable financial investment. One example is your forklift. Renting a forklift, either short or forklift rentallong-term, may make better economic sense, offer more financial flexibility, and protect your credit in these uncertain times.

    Economic Savings
The cost for renting a forklift is typically far less than the cost of buying a forklift outright, particularly when you will just use it for a job here and there. Even if the forklift is for long-term usage, the benefits of a long-term rental may outweigh the costs of a forklift, maintenance and parts. A forklift rental is a fixed cost and is an easily budgetary item.

In addition, even if the actual cost ends up being about the same as buying the item, you will be able to preserve your cash flow. You won’t need to come up with thousands of dollars to purchase the item, but rather just a few hundred for the first day, month, or week of renting it. You can then put your working capital to work for your business, market your product, and grow your income.

In addition, you may be able to deduct the cost of renting items from your business's tax return. This adds even more savings into the equation, as you will lower your tax liability when April 15th comes around. See your tax advisor for details.

    Flexibility
Forklift rental provides flexibility for your business as well. As your business grows and changes, its needs will change as well. By leasing these large-ticket items, you can upgrade or downgrade as your business needs change without a huge financial loss.

Whether you need an extra forklift to do inventory, perform a special project or many forklifts to handle extra shipments during a busy season, we offer a comprehensive selection of rental forklifts in a variety of power, capacity and tire arrangements.

    Protecting Credit
If you choose to purchase large items for your business, due to your cash flow limits you will likely turn to credit. By renting items instead of buying them, you leave your available credit lines open for other needs. This gives you more confidence that you can get through a slow spell or make smaller purchases when facing a cash flow shortage.

Because of all of these benefits, equipment rental simply makes sense for many businesses. The next time you find your business to be in need of a forklift, consider renting or long-term lease instead of purchasing one. It just might save you some money and increasing your company’s bottom-line.

Ring Power Lift Trucks has over 350 forklifts in its short-term rental fleet to choose from with capacities ranging from 3,000 to 52,000 lbs. Rent a forklift with a configuration that makes you most productive. Rent electric, gasoline, LP-gas or diesel forklifts or rent a specialized material handling forklift, such as quad-mast, truck mounted forklifts, piggyback trucks, flatbed trailers, narrow aisle trucks or order-pickers.

We supply a variety of productive attachments including carpet poles, box clamps, bail clamps, push pulls, single doubles, rotators, fork positioners, and paper roll clamps. We also rent sit-down, stand-on and walk-behind forklifts. Rental forklift rates includes maintenance and transportation of lift trucks to and from your premises.

Ring Power Lift Trucks is the forklift division of Ring Power Corporation, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. Additional offices service Pompano Beach, Miami, Daytona Beach, Orlando, Tampa, Ocala, Sarasota and Tallahassee.
