Ring Power® Celebrates 50 Years as Full-Line Caterpillar® Dealer

March 26, 2012 at 4:21 AMRing Power
This month Ring Power Corporation, in St. Augustine, Florida, celebrates 50 years as a full-line dealer of Caterpillar earthmoving, engine and material handling equipment.

Ring Power Corporation proudly announces their 50-year, golden anniversary as a Caterpillar dealership in Florida. In 1961, L.C. Ringhaver, the owner of the world’s largest shrimp boat manufacturer, Diesel Engine Sales, Inc. (DESCO), acquired the Caterpillar engine dealership rights from Jacksonville-based Gibbs Corporation. Originally established in St. Augustine, Fla., Ring Power Corp. was founded to sell and service Cat® marine engines to Northeast Florida’s thriving shrimp trawler industry.

Following the death of Cat dealer Lobrano Machinery Company’s president and owner, Tom Lobrano, Ring Power Corporation was awarded the dealer territory in Jacksonville, Ocala and Tallahassee, Fla. for the full line of Caterpillar equipment in March of 1962.

For the next 14 years, L.C. Ringhaver successfully developed the North Florida Caterpillar dealership, Ring Power Corporation, into a customer-focused, service-oriented establishment. Upon L.C. Ringhaver’s death in 1976, his eldest son, Lance Ringhaver, assumed leadership of the company as President and Chairman, a role he would retain until his acquisition of the Central Florida Caterpillar dealership, Rozier Machinery, 10 years later.

In 1986, Caterpillar awarded the Central Florida dealership rights to the Ringhavers. Lance Ringhaver moved to Tampa, Fla. to start a new dealership, Ringhaver Equipment Company, while Randy Ringhaver took leadership of Ring Power Corporation in Jacksonville. For nearly two decades, both Cat dealerships continued to flourish, taking on new business opportunities and products such as an expanded power systems line, rental equipment operations, forklifts, cranes, air compressors and utility equipment, all backed by parts and product support.

In 2004, Ringhaver Equipment Company and Ring Power Corporation officially merged into one consolidated company with Randy Ringhaver as Chairman and President of the new Ring Power Corporation. The combined Cat dealership territory now consists of 44 counties throughout North and Central Florida.

Ring Power Corporation, the North and Central Florida Caterpillar dealer, is headquartered in St. Augustine, Florida. Ring Power is comprised of eight divisions and has 50 years of experience servicing and supporting Caterpillar and allied equipment.

This past spring, the 2011 Florida SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference drew to a close at the Manatee Civic Center in Bradenton, where over 3000 students, educators, business people and supporters from across the state gathered for the 44th annual event. In all, more than 1300 students from 83 high schools, technical centers and colleges throughout Florida competed in 188 skills and leadership contests—the largest number of contests and greatest number of schools in the history of the conference!

Ring Power Corporation supports the mission of SkillsUSA by taking part every year in the organization’s state-level competitions. This year, nine students competed in the Diesel Equipment Technology trials, which were held in Ring Power’s Sarasota’s heavy equipment shops. Tampa Training Instructor Josh Markosen volunteered his services as a judge of the contestants’ hydraulic fundamentals skills; Ring Power Training Instructor Bob Delp judged contestants on electrical fundamentals skills; Sarasota Heavy Equipment Technician James Freeman judged their electronic engine skills; Sarasota Heavy Equipment Technician Josh Ritter judged their preventive maintenance skills; and Sarasota Heavy Equipment Service Business Manager Nathan Worley judged job interviewing skills.

Dwayne Rainer, Lakeland Cat Rental Store Field Service Technician, has been involved with SkillsUSA since he was a student. In 1990, when he was class president of his school’s chapter, Rainer took first place in the Florida diesel equipment technology competition and fourth place in the National Competition. Last year, as event chairman of the diesel equipment technology competition, Rainer organized the flow of students through the skill stations and assisted with judging, tallying and submitting the final competition results. This year, Rainer served as coordinator of the competition.

Crawler Crane by Manitowoc Available at Ring Power Crane—June 2011

    June 6, 2011 at 3:14 AMRing Power
Manitowoc Crawler Crane available at Ring Power Crane

Since it was first introduced in 2000, Ring Power refuses to keep Manitowoc’s 999 cranes off our shelves. Why? Because not only does it continue to meet the expectations of our Ring Power Crane custommanitowoc crawler craneers but this lattice boom crawler crane goes above and beyond, literally. With 48" wide cast steel pads, Manitowoc’s very own patented FACT connection to carbody and single-track design, this beast of burden does more than just get the job done.

Towering over its competition, this crane is strategically designed with drive motors located on each corner of the carbody, rather than the same side, to help with turning while carrying a load. This also allows for better ease of assembly, as it won’t matter what crawler goes on what side. Don’t miss out on Manitowoc’s exclusive independent closed loop system not to mention its main and whip drum’s continuous 29,500 lb. line pull with top to bottom layer. Tired of your crane engine refusing to crank up in the winter months? Well, the 999 offers a manually operated disconnect clutch for cold weather starting. All of this and more: Its crawlers’ tractive effort allows full counter-rotation with a full-rated load, exclusive to Manitowoc.

So don’t settle for a crane that limits your operation, let the Manitowoc 999 Crawler Crane earn you precious time and money as it continues to speak for itself. Now you know why our Ring Power customers can’t keep their hands off this crane for over a decade. Don’t let this load-lifting competitive edge slip through your hands. Come see for yourself why we proudly stand by the 999 lattice boom crawler crane.

This Manitowoc 999 lattice boom crawler crane is available for long term rent. Contact us for crane rental rates.

Crane Techs Take the Field at New Marlins Stadium in Miami–April 2011

    April 21, 2011 at 9:18 AMRing Power

The Major League Baseball Florida Marlins’ opening game held April 1 marks the beginning of their final season at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. And just outside Little Havana in downtown Miami, approximately 800 construction workers are busy manitowoc crane miamiconstructing Miami Ballpark, the Marlin’s new home. Recently, two of Ring Power Crane’s service technicians had a rare opportunity to join the construction crews at the renowned jobsite.

Steel erection specialists L.P.R. Construction Co., whose project history includes Coors Field, Memphis Arena and Miami Heat Stadium, was contracted to work the steel. The Loveland, Colo.-based company was using a Manitowoc 18000 to install the retractable roof on the new baseball stadium when the crane’s radio-controlled load cell unit malfunctioned, and L.P.R. called Ring Power Crane in Pompano to assist.

Ring Power Crane technician, Raul Urena, reported to the stadium jobsite to troubleshoot the problem and took the load cell back to the facility for inspection and repair. At the time, the crane was also due for routine 1000-hour service, so Crane FS Tech II Mauricio Brizuela returned to the site with Urena two days later. The crane technicians spent the next two days installing the load cell, changing the oils and filters, and inspecting the engine, drives, hydraulics and hoist assemblies.

Miami Ballpark will be the sixth Major League Baseball stadium to have a retractable roof, and the Ring Power Crane service technicians are proud to have played an important part in its construction.
