SWAT Teams Conduct Training Drills with The Rook

January 25, 2013 at 12:32 PMRing Power

SWAT teams from around Northeast Florida conducted training drills with The Rook Armored Critical Incident Vehicle in Ponte Vedra, Fla., Jan. 23.

The Rook Armored Critical Incident Vehicle is designed and manufactured by Ring Power's Tactical Solutions division.

The valuable training allowed area law enforcement the opportunity to experience The Rook in action and train for emergency situations.

The training took place at an old shopping center that is slated to be demolished and rebuilt. Since it was already going to be destroyed,  law enforcement officials were granted use of the property to train — and do some damage.

The Rook utilizes a powerful Cat 287C Multi-Terrain Loader with an 84 gross HP engine, 13,000 lbs. operating weight, rugged wide rubber tracks, dual joystick controls and an enclosed cab. It is equipped with custom installed bullet-proof glass and NIJ Level IV armor cab reinforcement fabrication.

SWAT Teams practiced entering a second story building using The Rook’s Armored Deployment Platform. The ADP can be raised to 11 feet, allowing officers to gain entry to a second story building without having to work their way up the stairs. The ADP is equipped with four locking gun ports, four bullet proof glass sight ports, and video cameras attached to the front of the platform with video feed to the equipment operator.

SWAT Teams also practiced using the standard Hydraulic Breaching Ram attachment. The HBR delivers 6,500 psi of pressure and much more power than a traditional hand-carried ram. It can be used to breach block walls, reinforced steel doors, wood and concrete, and windows protected by burglar bars. The ram is equipped with four low-light video and one infrared forward view cameras recessed into the end – one on each side and one in front-giving the operator a 360° view of the breaching area. The video images are transmitted to the viewing screen inside the cab with the operator.

The Grapple Claw attachment was also used during the training. The GC and can be utilized to gain access to attics where suspects might be trying to hide or seek protection from ground level exposure. With 4,500 lbs. of lifting capacity, use of the grapple claws in removing fortified doors, burglar bars, or exterior shrubbery can simplify access for armed officers. The grapple claw also aides in disaster relief efforts with the ability to remove debris from streets for emergency responders’ access.

Ring Power Sarasota Makes Dream Come True

November 1, 2012 at 1:16 PMRing Power

Since 1981 the Children’s Dream Fund has been making dreams come true for children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Recently, Ring Power had the opportunity to fulfill the dream of one little boy who had always wanted to ride “in a real Tonka truck!”

CDF Dream Coordinator Kim Brett contacted Ring Power for help organizing the “dream experience” for three-year-old Renton Bryant and his family. Two weeks after the tyke’s final chemotherapy treatment, Renton’s mother, father, older sister and twin brother were chauffeured by limo to our Sarasota store. There, Service Manager Nathan Worley had prepared a small demo site for some hands-on fun with real construction equipment. The highlight of the morning, of course, was a ride with Nathan in a real Cat 740B articulated truck!

Dream experiences are meant to encourage children who have undergone difficult medical treatments; to help them overcome their fears and give them – and their families – hope for the future.

September 29, 2011 at 4:24 PMRing Power

Caterpillar and Dealer Ring Power Sign International Power Project Agreement with APR Energy

PEORIA, Ill. / LONDON, U.K. - Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT), Cat dealer Ring Power and APR Energy plc ("APR" - LSE: APR), today announced they have signed an agreement to develop temporary power solutions globally to meet the needs of the growing international power projects (IPP) market, especially in the emerging markets.

The five-year agreement centers on APR working with Caterpillar, Ring Power and the Cat dealer network to originate and respond to temporary power plant opportunities. As part of the agreement, Caterpillar will supply mobile generator sets through Ring Power to APR Energy, including the new XQ2000 and XQ1475G power modules, designed specifically for the international power projects market. APR will benefit from an increased flow of temporary power plant opportunities and from clear visibility of an integrated supply line to fulfill on its diesel and gas engine requirements, and Caterpillar will benefit from an increased presence, on a global basis, in the IPP market.

"We are pleased to be working with Ring Power and APR Energy as we expand our growth in the international power projects business," said Bill Rohner, Caterpillar vice president with responsibility for electric power. "APR’s experience in temporary power solutions, Caterpillar’s engineering and product expertise and Ring Power’s rental experience will enable us to better serve our customers," continued Rohner. By working with Caterpillar and Ring Power, APR continues to strengthen its position as one of the fastest growing providers in the IPP market. The extensive Cat dealer network will allow APR to benefit from a truly global network of parts availability and services provided by the 188 Cat dealers and 126,700 Cat dealer employees around the world. Along with parts and services support, APR’s cooperation with Caterpillar and its dealers will present new sales opportunities previously unfulfilled by either party.

"I have been doing business with Caterpillar for more than 20 years, and APR has used their power modules for its entire history. We know Caterpillar well and have great respect for them. This is an exciting win-win for all of us," said John Campion, CEO of APR. "With this agreement, we can work together to fulfill a far greater number of global power opportunities."

As part of the agreement, Cat dealer Ring Power will provide application, engineering, sales and product support to APR Energy.

"Our market leading product support and rental service capabilities enable us to deliver world-class energy solutions to our customers, and we look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with APR Energy," said Randy Ringhaver, president of Ring Power.

A world-class manufacturer of diesel and natural gas engines and an industry leading provider of complete solutions for the electric power industry, Caterpillar pioneered the development of the mobile power module and has provided customers with power systems solutions for more than 70 years. To meet the needs of international power projects customers, Caterpillar released a new version of its successful XQ2000 power module utilizing the 3516B engine. This new diesel power module is capable of running both 50 and 60 Hz, which is ideal for a global power provider like APR. The new XQ1475G power module contains the world leading G3516E natural gas generator set.
