Potato Farm In Hastings, Florida Loves Challenger Tractors

Bulls Hit Ranch & Farm Explains Why They Prefer Challenger Agricultural Equipment Challenger Tractor Harvesting Potatoes

Just past the aptly named, Spuds, Florida on Highway 207 in Hastings, Florida, you’ll find the Bulls Hit Ranch and Farm. This cleverly named tuber farm has been harvesting spuds for forty years. Thomas R. Lee, Sr. began by farming for someone else by day, and leasing a separate plot of land and growing potatoes for himself at night. The farm has since grown to encompass 500 acres in the Hastings area. Bulls Hit grows red and table-stock potatoes.

If you have bought potatoes from a Publix or Walmart in Florida, chances are, you have eaten one of the Lee’s potatoes! The Bulls Hit Ranch is a full family affair, three generations of Thomas Raymond Lee’s work on the farm. And all three generations agree that their Challenger tractors are the best in their fleet. Thomas “Tater” Lee, Jr. said, “I really like the machine, but I really love the service. If anything happens, Ring Power comes right away. I’ve never not had them come out, they have always been there for us”. Service like that is important when you only have eight weeks for your entire harvest.

Downtime is not an option for potato farmers; machines have to be up and running 24 hours a day. Tater Lee recalled, “One time I had the hood on one of my Challenger machines up, checking the oil, and I’ll be darned if my Ring Power field technician didn’t see it from the highway and pull into the farm just to see what was wrong!” Ring Power is proud of our Customers First reputation and works hard to keep those potato farmers happy!

Burton, Cat Racing Team Score Third-Place Effort In Sprint Showdown

Driving a special-themed Caterpillar Chevy Impala, commemorating Dale Earnhardt’s induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing team overcame a 17th-place starting position to finish third in the annual Sprint Showdown 40-lap event.

The race, which precedes the yearly All Star event, consists of two 20-lap segments where both green flag and caution laps count toward the first 20 laps, followed by another 20 laps where only green-flag laps are scored.Cat Racing

Friday’s opening day gave the 29 entries an 80-minute practice session so they could fine tune their race cars for Saturday night’s contest. The Todd Berrier-led team meticulously used every second of the session and when it was all said and done, the Cat Racing team was listed second on the scoreboard.

Later that night, Burton was slated to roll of the grid 17th in the qualifying session and toured the 1.5-mile oval fast enough to position himself right behind the provisional pole sitter. But, with four cars left to make qualifying runs, Mother Nature swarmed the Concord area and delayed the time trials session for rain. Track-drying efforts, coupled with a race against the clock to get the Camping World Truck Series race in, forced NASCAR officials to cancel the Sprint Showdown qualifying session and set the starting lineup based on qualifying order.

Despite starting deep in the field, Burton & Company were overall pleased with the performance of the Caterpillar Chevy in Friday’s practice session and hoped that it would translate over to the 40-lap brawl.

The RCR entry did not disappoint.

The veteran driver moved into 12th just two laps in, 10th on lap six, and cracked the top five at lap 12.

Tussling with a machine that was tight through the middle of the turns and loose on the exits, a caution on lap 17 provided an opportunity for Berrier to summon Burton to pit road where the veteran crew chief called for a two-tire pit stop that included air pressure adjustments.

Restarting fourth, the 21-time Sprint Cup Series race winner narrowly missed a three-car racing incident that placed him fifth for a 19-lap shootout.

The South Boston, Va., native traveled to fourth on lap 23 and into third on the ensuing lap, where he spent the remaining laps trying to reel in the second-place car. But, the handling on the Caterpillar Chevy shifted to the tight side in the closing circuits and Burton couldn’t make up any time on the frontrunners, taking the checkers third.

Martin Truex Jr. captured the win while Greg Biffle crossed the line second, posting finishes that allowed both drivers to transfer into the All Star Race. Burton, Paul Menard and Marcos Ambrose rounded out the top-five finishers.

Burton’s RCR teammate Clint Bowyer retired to the garage early after making contact with the wall, resulting in a 23rd-place finish.

Fellow stablemate Kevin Harvick competed in the All Star Race where he finished sixth.

Flag-to-flag coverage of the Coca-Cola 600 will take the green flag Sunday, May 30, beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The race will be televised live on FOX and broadcast on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 13th points-paying race on the 2010 schedule will be telecast live on SPEED Thursday, May 27 beginning at 7 p.m. EDT.

Florida's Largest Peanut Farmer Prefers Challenger Agricultural Equipment

Gene Waldron Explains Why He Chooses Challenger over John Deere Tractors Gene Waldron Shows Famous Green Peanuts

"God first, family second and farming third." These are words Mr. Gene Waldron (of Waldron Farms’ green peanut fame) lives by. He says, "It really is just that simple."

Waldron’s journey as a peanut farmer began fifty years ago. He quit school and went to work farming at the age of fifteen. He began with one hundred acres of peanut fields in 1959. He would sell these peanuts to the Jacksonville Farmers Market by way of a neighbor’s truck and a borrowed tank of gas. Waldron recalls, "My neighbor had a truck he said he’d sell me for sixty-five dollars. I said, ‘Okay, I’ll buy the truck, but can I borrow five dollars for gas?’" At fifteen, he then drove without a driver’s license from Citra, Florida up to Jacksonville to the Farmers Market. He did this for two weeks and the following Monday returned to his neighbor to repay him for the truck and the gas money. And that’s where it all began.

Fast-forward fifty years and Gene Waldron now farms 7,000 acres of peanuts across the state of Florida. He owns 3,200 acres near Citra and leases the remaining land farther south where he has a longer warm season for growing. Waldron Farms are particularly well known for their "green" peanut. The green peanut has reached its full maturation size, but is not allowed to completely dry out. This creates a taste that most peanut connoisseurs prefer. Green peanuts are also harder to come by; because they are not completely dried out and cured like dry-roasted peanut varieties they have a shorter shelf life. Most green peanuts are eventually boiled to become the southern road-side snack favorite "boiled peanuts". During Waldron’s busy months, they produce 5,000 bushels of green peanuts a day. Waldron sells these peanuts from as far south as Homestead, Florida, to as far north as Boston and Canada and all the way out to Texas.

The interesting thing about Gene Waldron is that he used to be a John Deere dealer. He owned Marion Tractor and then Green South with locations in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. So how did this John Deere aficionado become a Ring Power customer? Challenger tractors. Waldron has a fleet of thirty-six agricultural tractors. Of these, his favorite are the four Challengers he bought from Ring Power. The Challengers are his favorite for a very simple reason: they save him money. And a lot of it. Waldron said that he can run a Challenger MT575B with the same horsepower as his 7820 Deere machine for twice the amount of time on the same amount of fuel. Pulling the harrows, his Deere machines have to be refueled every day. Challenger tractors only need to be refueled every two days. The Challenger tractor saves him at least fifty gallons of fuel every day. That comes out to over $23,000 worth of savings per year for just one tractor alone. Waldron says, "The savings in fuel alone makes it worth it, but it’s the service that really makes the difference."

Waldron explains that every hour a tractor isn’t Waldron Farm's Green Peanutsworking, is an hour he’s not making money. He said Ring Power’s one hour field service turn around time makes all the difference in the world. Waldron explained, "Deere never once made it out here in under an hour, even when I owned the company!" Waldron can’t afford any down time, especially during harvesting season, and that is why he relies on Ring Power’s service department to be there at a moment’s notice to get him back up and running.

Of the thirty-two Deere tractors remaining in Waldron’s fleet, he plans to keep zero. Every single one will be traded in for the Challenger equivalent as soon as the warranties run out. Waldron could not be more pleased with his Challenger machines and is happy to tell anyone about it! More Challengers mean more peanuts!
